"The UNEF sounds the alarm". Mobilized on the issue of discrimination, the student union, classified on the left, has just published a survey on the fight against racism, sexism and discrimination in higher education. The reason ? The UNEF says it is "tired of the effects of the announcement and the lack of inventory". The verdict ? "There is an urgent need to put in place an ambitious policy to combat discrimination in our establishments," said the student union. But not everything is to be thrown away.

In a list of universities working the most in the fight against discrimination, UNEF salutes the most enterprising universities. On the first step of the podium, Rennes 2 University, where 22 control systems have been identified, including the distribution of periodical protection for women, the presence of a listening and monitoring cell or the establishment of neutral toilets and an emergency guide against street harassment. In a press release, the Rennes university reminds that it has set up a "gender equality mission from 2015". A choice that embodies "the strong will of the university to develop the means to fight against inequalities, discrimination and all forms of violence".

Bordeaux and Rennes 1 on the podium

The Rennes university had however been shaken by a case of suspicion of racism last year, when an Ivorian student had been attacked by a teacher. A case mentioned by the UNEF in its investigation when it had ended in the release of the professor by its committee of discipline.

In its survey, the UNEF also salutes the efforts of the University of Bordeaux Montaigne, ranked second in its ranking but at the forefront of the fight against "lgbti + phobias" just outside Rennes 1 university, the university d'Angers and the University of Aix-Marseille. The student union does not fail to scratch the establishments on their lack of ambition, revealing in passing that 45% of the universities declare that they do not have a monitoring and listening unit. The survey also reveals that 42% of people "perceived as not white" state that they have been the victim of racism during their studies.

The union wishes to give "a binding character" to the mechanisms for combating discrimination and awaits "the establishment of a national plan in higher education", demanding in passing "a substantial financial investment" towards universities.
