All three young twins born in Mexico were confirmed with the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

According to El Universal et al. in Mexico Daily on the 23rd (local time), the triplets born on the 17th in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, all showed positive results in the gene amplification (PCR) diagnostic corona19 diagnostic test.

Two boys and one girl, the triplets, were tested for corona19 shortly after their cesarean section was born earlier than the expected date, and only one baby is currently showing respiratory symptoms, authorities said.

The triplets' parents are asymptomatic and await the results of the Corona19 test.

There have been frequent cases of corona19 infection in newborns around the world, but simultaneous infection of twin newborns is unprecedented, state health officials said.

The timing and route of infection for newborns is being studied.

However, authorities have raised the possibility that newborn babies were infected in their mother's womb before they were born, after having been examined a few hours after birth.

"It will not be possible to get infected at the moment of birth," said State Minister of Health Monica Langel Marites. "It may have been infected through the placenta. I'm not sure yet, but I have to research it."

According to a BBC medical journalist, researchers at Yale University in the United States recently reported the first case of corona19 vertical infection from the mother to the fetus through the placenta.

Corona19 infection during pregnancy is not known to pose a small risk to the mother and fetus, but there are some studies that increase the likelihood of premature birth, the BBC said.
