According to RIA Novosti, Atambayev was convicted of corruption in the release of criminal authority Aziz Batukaev.
“The court found Atambaev guilty and decided to sentence him to 11 years and 2 months of imprisonment with confiscation of state awards and property,” the judge said.
In December 2019, a state commission to clarify the causes of mass unrest in the country on August 7-8 published a conclusion stating that the actions of the ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev were the main cause of the unrest in the Chui region and the capital of the republic.
