• Sigma Dos survey for EL MUNDO. The PP gets within three points of the PSOE and Vox suffers a strong setback

Inés Arrimadas will reappear after her maternity leave in an electoral act with Pablo Casado in the campaign for the autonomous elections in the Basque Country. The PP and Citizens' directorates are closing the date and the space for what will be one of the most important constitutional acts of those elections, as sources in the conversations held by both parties have confirmed to EL MUNDO.

The same sources explain that they still cannot specify the day and place of the joint act. They are just failing to square the electoral agendas of the two parties, which present themselves in coalition in the Basque Country, to close it.

Both Casado and Arrimadas want to claim the alliance that the two formations of the center-right maintain not only to go in coalition in Euskadi, but also in the autonomous governments of four communities: Andalusia, the Community of Madrid, Castilla y León, the Region of Murcia .

In the Basque Country, the PP and Cs seek to represent the constitutionalist and non-nationalist alternative to the coalition government of the PNV and the PSOE and to the radical option of Bildu and Podemos.

The act of Casado y Arrimadas will take place after Cs has closed up to four agreements with the Government to extend the state of alarm or to support the decree that regulates what the Executive calls the "new normality". Sources from the leadership of the liberal formation insist that these pacts with Pedro Sánchez do not interfere at all in their relationship with the PP. In fact, they emphasize that this relationship "is stronger than ever" in the past, despite the fact that both parties follow different strategies in relation to Pedro Sánchez.

The formation of Arrimadas, for example, will reject with all its forces the dialogue table with the independentistas that the Government wants to reactivate. "We will try that the table does not take place," they assure from the Cs leadership, "but that does not influence our contacts with the Government to face the health, social and economic crisis that the coronavirus has caused," they added.

Before the pandemic, PP and Cs agreed to close the electoral coalition in the Basque Country under a single candidacy headed by Carlos Iturgaiz. In Galicia, the agreement was not possible due to the round refusal of the Galician president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to head a similar coalition.

The two parties are also planning to negotiate and close another single list for the Catalan elections, which do not yet have a date, but which could be at the end of 2020.

Sources from both the PP and Cs assure that the relationship between both formations is "very good". In fact, the harmony between the regional directorates could have slowed down the crisis in the Community of Madrid, where the president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, does not maintain good relations with Cs, who is her government partner.

Married believes that the "technical tie" supports him

On the other hand, Pablo Casado has relied on the EL MUNDO electoral survey to consolidate his commitment to a "firm and responsible opposition" when the control of the Covid-19 pandemic reopens the political space in Spain . The PP president has used as a reference the opposition role in Great Britain or the United States, which is applauded by left-wing parties, while insisting on the five proposals that have been forwarded to the Pedro Sánchez government without response. Casado has announced that he will visit the Basque Country on at least six occasions to support Carlos Iturgaiz's electoral campaign and in one of these events he will share the limelight with the leader of Ciudadanos Inés Arrimadas.

Casado has anticipated his presence in the Basque campaign to strengthen the PP and Citizens coalition led by Carlos Iturgaiz. The PP leader has visited the Petronor facilities - owned by Repsol - in the Biscayan municipality of Muskiz to link the management of European funds with projects such as the two new biofuel plants promoted by the Basque petrochemical plant. Married, in addition, has been convinced of the electoral pull of PP and Citizens as "only alternative" to Basque nationalism but especially as a far-reaching political formula.

Pushed by the good electoral prospects -Casado recalled that the PP has grown 10 points in the polls last year-, the PP leader has highlighted the strength of the government coalitions with Citizens. "They are the best alternative for the future for the Basque Country," stressed Casado.
