It was during a visit by the troops to the new Akouedo military camp in Abidjan that the Minister of Defense and Acting Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko announced the capture of the leader of the jihadist commando, responsible for the attack on the post of Kafolo's army on the Burkinabé border on June 11.

After a minute of silence in tribute to the ten soldiers who died in combat, the minister said that the terrorist leader was arrested this Sunday, without revealing his identity and the circumstances of his arrest. Hamed Bakayoko also reveals the arrest of a significant number of people who participated in the attack, with evidence supporting the photos found on their mobile phones.

This is the second jihadist offensive on Ivorian soil since the deadly attack on Grand-Bassam beach in 2016. With the emergence of terrorist actions in the countries of the Atlantic coast, Côte d'Ivoire has strengthened surveillance of its borders with Mali and Burkina Faso, and now conducts joint military operations with its neighbors.

During his speech, the Minister of Defense announced the upcoming ceremony in memory of the fallen soldiers in Kafolo, with the presence of President Alassane Ouattara.
