Brazil, the second most mourning country in the world by Covid-19 behind the United States, has passed the threshold of 50,000 deaths and the million confirmed cases, the megacities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro being the most severely achieved.

The Covid-19 killed 641 more people in 24 hours in the country, bringing the total toll to 50,617 deaths, said Sunday June 21 the Ministry of Health.

Since the start of the pandemic, far-right president Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly played down the severity of the health crisis, describing the coronavirus as a "small flu", and accused state governors of making it worse artificially taking stock of the epidemic for political ends.

Elsewhere in Latin America, epicenter of the pandemic and the southern part of which entered Sunday in winter, the balance sheet has exceeded in recent days the 20,000 dead in Mexico, the 1,000 dead in Argentina and the 8,000 dead in Peru.
