There will be "300,000 more unemployed in Île-de-France by the end of the year" because of the coronavirus crisis, said Sunday the president of the region, Valérie Pécresse.

"Estimates are 300,000 more unemployed in Île-de-France by the end of the year. This means that in Île-de-France, we risk exceeding one million unemployed, it will be a sad historic record, "said Ms. Pécresse (Libres !, ex-LR) at the microphone of the Grand Jury RTL, Le Figaro, LCI.

"The economic crisis will be very hard, particularly in Île-de-France. We have tourism, we have industries which are particularly affected: aeronautics, the automobile. We have culture, events", added the president of the region who fears that a second wave of the epidemic will "really knock on the economy of France".

The Covid-19 crisis is "a tsunami that wins everything in its path" and involves, for Ile-de-France, a debt of "1 billion euros of debt", because of the loss of revenue and increased spending, she said.

Across France, Unédic, which manages the unemployment insurance scheme, anticipates the destruction of 900,000 jobs at the end of 2020 compared to the 4th quarter of 2019, which would lead to compensation for 630,000 additional job seekers .

The first quarter of 2020 had seen the destruction of 497,400 jobs in the private sector, a drop of 2.5% caused by a collapse of 40% in the interim, due to confinement, according to figures from INSEE.
