Former justice minister Pascal Clément died on Sunday in Paris at the age of 75 from a lung infection, his family said. "This morning, Sunday, June 21, the former Keeper of the Seals and former deputy of the Loire died in Paris, at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital, from a lung infection," said his family, adding that Pascal Clement had tested negative for Covid-19.

Pascal Clément, father of four, was Minister of Justice and Minister of Justice between 2005 and 2007 under Jacques Chirac. The former UDF and UMP deputy had also been Minister Delegate for Relations with the National Assembly in the government of Edouard Balladur from 1993 to 1995, under the presidency of François Mitterrand.

President of the Loire General Council from 1994 to 2008, he chaired the Law Commission of the National Assembly between 2002 and 2005.
