by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 21 June 2020The Serbian progressive party (SNS, actually conservative and right-oriented) of President Aleksandar Vucic is clearly at the top of the political elections.

This is indicated by an exit poll by the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (Cesid), according to which the SNS obtained 63.4%, followed by the Socialist Party of Serbia of Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, the coalition's minor partner, with 10.3%.

This is what emerges after the closing of the seats at 20.00. The elections have been boycotted by the opposition, which challenges the authoritarian drift of the president. The last official figure on the turnout is at 18.00 and records 40.82% of presences at the polling stations. About 42% also considering the seats available to the Serbian population of Kosovo.

The opposition Spas (Rescue) party of the former water polo player and mayor of Novi Beograd, Aleksander Sapic, is expected to stop around 3.9%. The barrier threshold is 3%.

Political consultations were initially scheduled for 26 April. However, elections have been postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic and are the first to be held in Europe since the end of the lockdwon. Voting operations were carried out in compliance with the anti-Covid-19 safety and prevention measures with protective mask, at least one meter interpersonal distance and hand disinfection at the entrance and exit of the polling station.

Public TV already gives the Serbian Progress Party as the winner of the elections even if the counting of the ballots is not concluded.
