On Saturday, a 10-year-old girl was taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter after a drowning incident at Slagstabadet in Botkyrka. On the same day, a man in his 50s died after a swim in Ronneby, as well as a woman in his 60s, who lost their lives after falling into the water in Landskrona. On Saturday, a dead man was also found in Lake Mälaren near Västerås.

10-year-old boy drowned

Earlier this week, a 10-year-old boy also drowned in Sala and in the last seven days nine people have drowned in Sweden.

The Swedish Lifeguard Society has not yet compiled the figures for the number of drowning accidents this weekend, but it is said that 20 alarm drowning incidents have been received since Friday.

A risk factor right now is that the air is warm while the water is still cold.

- For many, this is the first dip and the cooling down in combination with maybe alcohol or that you suddenly fall in increases the risk of drowning and perishing, says Karin Brand, secretary general of the Swedish Life Rescue Society.

The heat increases the risk

The warm weather has also increased the risk of accidents involving watercraft and boats.

On Sunday afternoon, two people were taken to hospital after driving into a tree with a water scooter in central Stockholm and last Friday a woman was taken to the hospital after a scooter accident in the archipelago outside Öregrund in Uppland.
