Ignoring the warnings on the coronavirus, Donald Trump resumed Saturday evening with the meetings which he loves to give a boost to his re-election campaign. The room which was to consecrate this return in fanfare was not full, far from it.

REPORTAGE

For his return to the campaign, Donald Trump offered his supporters a speech of almost two hours. In Tusla, Oklahoma, the president made the show, told anecdotes, made fun of the media, and Joe Biden, his Democratic opponent, described as "puppet" both of "the radical left" and from China, and presented as a politician who "never did anything" in a half-century career in Washington. "In Joe Biden's America, looters and illegal aliens have more rights than law-abiding Americans," he said.

Violence carried out by a few "thugs"

Donald Trump has returned to his favorite themes, praised his administration in favor of the army, against immigration. Long awaited on racial issues, while the country is still plagued by demonstrations, the tenant of the White House denounced violence carried out by "thugs". "Our incredible success in rebuilding our country contrasts so strongly with the extremism, destruction, and violence of the radical left ... And the media is talking about demonstrators?"

"I have saved hundreds of thousands of lives"

Donald Trump said in a tweet on Monday that "almost a million" people had requested tickets for the meeting. The room which was to consecrate this return in fanfare was not however full, far from it. But if the grandiose crowd announced by the American president was not at the meeting, it is also the fault of the demonstrators, he affirms.

Donald Trump also defended his management of the health crisis. "I have saved hundreds of thousands of lives, but no one ever praises our work," he said. He promises that the severely affected economy is already recording record numbers. This is just the beginning, we will continue to win, we will be at the top again, said Donald Trump.

Trying to rediscover the tone of the meetings that played a central role in his surprise victory of 2016, the 74-year-old American president assured that he was, unlike his 77-year-old Democratic opponent, in top physical condition. "If there is a problem, I will tell you," he said, returning at length to a ceremony at the prestigious West Point Military Academy, in which he appeared to be showing signs of fatigue.
