Yesterday, Pope Francis held the first meeting with a group of people in the Vatican, since Italy lifted the general isolation measures it imposed to combat the emerging Corona virus, and the meeting was devoted to medical crews from the most affected regions of Italy. "You were one of the main pillars for the whole country," the Pope told a group of doctors and nursing staff from the Lombardy region in Clementina Hall, which had been closed for months because of Corona. "To those of you who are here, and to your colleagues in Italy, I offer my deepest respect and thanks, and I know for sure that I express the feeling of everyone." He thanked the medical workers, describing them as "angels", praising their actions, such as loaning their phones to patients in their last moments in order to bid farewell to their loved ones.

The disease has killed nearly 35,000 injured people in Italy, and among those who have died were 170 doctors.
