20 June 2020Two arrests and numerous searches in the province of Trapani among the alleged loyalists of the super-fugitive Matteo Messina Denaro. The mobile team, on the orders of the investigating magistrate of Palermo, arrested Giuseppe Calcagno and Marco Manzo, 46 ​​and 55 years old, both from Campobello di Mazara and investigated for mafia association and extortion. The men of the police station, of the police stations of the province and of the crime prevention departments of Palermo and Reggio Calabria also participated in the operation, with dog units and the Flight department of Palermo: a total of 90 men employed. There are 15 suspects in the investigation conducted by the Palermo District Anti-Mafia Directorate. Performed searches in Marsala, Mazara del Vallo and Castelvetrano. The charges are of mafia association, extortion, possession of weapons and aiding the hiding of the mafia boss, also among those under investigation on charges of attempted extortion. The investigation, called 'Ermes Phase 3', brought to light the activities of the 15 suspects, considered "members or contiguous" of the mafia mandates of Mazara del vallo and Castelvetrano, who would have "worked" to "guarantee" the interests economic, control of the territory and production activities by Cosa Nostra and would have "in the past favored confidential communication with the fugitive".

During the blitz that at dawn today led to the arrest of two people believed to be supporters of the fugitive boss Matteo Messina Denaro, the men of the Trapani mobile team also searched the home of the mafia boss's mother in the center of Castelvetrano (Trapani ).
