Forced to repay hundreds of thousands of kronor in incorrect parental allowance

For over three years, the woman has been paid over SEK 300,000 in parental benefit, which she now has to pay back. According to the woman herself, she has misunderstood the application forms and filled in the days she worked, instead of the days she was parental leave. But the Social Insurance Office believes that the woman has not reported that she worked and therefore she should pay back the money.

In the man's case, this is a sum of SEK 170,000 which he received in parental benefit for one year. Money that he was not entitled to when he moved abroad and is no longer covered by Swedish social insurance.
