In January of last year, the former police was convicted by a jury in the High Court of Serious Corruption but was released from the charges of assisting in drug smuggling to Norway. However, the judges disagreed with the jury on the acquittal, which led to the whole trial having to be re-elected with new judges.

"This case is historic," NRK journalist Øyvind Gustavsen told SVT News.

Worked to fight drug trafficking

Former police chief Eirik Jensen previously worked to combat drug trafficking and gang crime in Oslo.

A leader of a drug network, called the hashbaron, has admitted that he smuggled large amounts of hashish into Norway for 20 years and has stated that it has been possible since Jensen sent coded sms to him. He should also have received money for his services.

The "Hasch Baron" receives a penalty for cooperating with the investigation and his former 15-year prison sentence is now reduced to 13 years.

The former police officer must have provided various explanations and conflicting information in questioning, which according to the prosecutor lowered his credibility. In a book released in 2015, ex-police Jensen declared himself innocent and writes that revenge may have been the motive behind the charges.
