As the coronavirus pandemic in full swing in Brazil and the resumption of football matches in the State of Rio is disputed, the cartoonists and cartoonists of the country protest against the intimidation they claim to suffer from the government by Jair Bolsonaro.

In an open letter distributed Tuesday and signed in particular by the Association of Cartoonists of Brazil and the Union of Professional Journalists of the State of Sao Paulo, they denounce the "political persecution" and "intolerance" of the authorities, after the investigation by the Minister of Justice, André Mendonça, into a drawing by Aroeira.

Member of Cartooning for Peace, the Mexican cartoonist Rodriguez therefore decided to portray an armed Jair Bolsonaro as a policeman shooting in a balloon stamped "Cartoonists". A drawing he wanted as a gesture of solidarity with his Brazilian colleagues Laerte, Montanaro, Benett, Mor and Aroeira, he explained in a tweet.

Cartooning for Peace is an international network of cartoonists committed to promoting, through the universality of press cartoons, freedom of expression, human rights and mutual respect between populations of different cultures or beliefs.
