The airports should be prepared to open at any time for socially important transport.

Preparedness airports were introduced in 2012. The Swedish Transport Administration has been commissioned by the government to evaluate the system, and has now submitted its report.

It is mainly the ambulance flight of the healthcare system and helicopters that use the emergency function, for transport to the university hospitals, among other things.

The Swedish Maritime Administration's rescue efforts, the Coast Guard, the forest fire aviation and the police also use the airports, which must therefore be prepared to open quickly outside normal times.

More needed

But today's system is not enough to secure the socially important flight, according to the Swedish Transport Administration. It is proposed that more airports be added, that the state allocation be increased and that the model for financing be reviewed.

The total state grant should be increased to SEK 50 million per year, the agency believes. Today's funding is just under ten million.

The investigators have identified nine new contingency contingency airports, however, without contacting the actors responsible at each location. It is therefore not known if there is interest in all nine locations.

The nine airports that are proposed to be added are Skavsta in Nyköping, Uppsala, Örebro, Linköping, Jönköping, Karlstad, Mora, Lycksele and Kiruna.
