On Wednesday, the US prosecution charged a policeman in the city of Atlanta with killing a black citizen in a parking lot in front of a fast food restaurant last week, killing him, while a colleague facing lighter charges agreed to testify against him in the case.
Richard Brooks' death came after a long series of African American deaths in confrontations with law enforcement agencies documented by video. The incident fueled social tension in the United States at a time of protests against police brutality and racism in the criminal justice system.
Folton County District Attorney Paul Howard told a news conference that Brooks, a 27-year-old father of three, had "never shown any indication of a threat" and had not shown hostile behavior towards the two white policemen during last Friday's confrontation.

He added that 11 criminal charges were brought against the police officer, Jarrett Rolfe, who shot Brooks and was fired from his work the next day after surveillance cameras revealed what happened in the incident, and that the charges included criminal murder, assault with a deadly weapon and perjury in the right-of-work.
