A childminder was sentenced on Wednesday to a four-year suspended prison sentence by the criminal court of Tours (Indre-et-Loire) for having violently shaken a 5-month-old baby whom she was keeping, reports France Bleu Touraine. The facts took place on January 13, 2016 in the town of Chargé. The childminder was 23 years old at the time.

After being shaken, the baby, a little girl named Nina, suffered from bruises and hemorrhages in the skull. She had to be operated on six times in just 10 months. Despite the doctors' efforts, the little girl lost the use of her right eye.

The maternal assistance did not recognize the facts until two weeks after the incident, while in police custody. During the hearing, the prosecutor, quoted by France Bleu, indicated that his gesture was "voluntary and of atomic intensity for the child". In addition to his conviction, the third party is also prohibited from practicing any profession in connection with minors.
