A hundred migrants were rescued this Wednesday off Libya by a Sea Watch humanitarian ship. The boat assisted a canoe 29 nautical miles from the coast, near the town of Zawyia, the German NGO announced on its Twitter account, adding that "several of the people rescued immediately received medical treatment".

"During the rescue operation, a star from the Libyan coast guard arrived who would have pushed them [to the ground] if we had not intervened," said the NGO.

Another "captured" boat

According to a press release from the left-wing Italian collective Mediterranea, which charters a second humanitarian ship patrolling the area, the Mare Jonio , another boat for migrants was "captured" by a Libyan coast guard speedboat at midday in the Tripoli area. "We had to attend helplessly to the intervention of the Libyan militiamen who (…) violated all international conventions by pushing dozens of refugees towards the bombs and the torture from which they were trying to escape," said the group.

The Libyan star took the Mare Jonio to speed to intervene on "an almost immobile boat, and therefore in obvious difficulty", explains Mediterranea. Arrived on site, the NGO's boat found only one empty gray canoe, "with damaged and deflated tubes, and, as always, the engine already carried".
