(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) Scholars from multiple countries discuss the post-epidemic order

China News Agency, Beijing, June 17 (Zhang Weiran, Zhang Su, Huang Yuqin) Tsinghua University hosted a special video conference for the 2020 World Peace Forum on the evening of June 16. Scholars from Germany, the United States, and China pointed out at the meeting that countries should focus on common interests and cooperate to deal with possible risks of disorder in the international order.

The theme of this forum is "Post-epidemic Era: China and the World" for two days. Affected by the epidemic, the forum was conducted live online, inviting former politicians and think tank scholars from many countries to discuss the new security challenges facing the world today.

On that day, the world order after the epidemic crisis became a hot topic in the forum. Graham Ellison, a well-known professor at Harvard University, said that the new coronary pneumonia epidemic will have an important impact on the GDP of major powers, and will inevitably have an impact on the structure of relations between major powers. He believes that "the arrival of the new coronary pneumonia epidemic means the end of history" is too radical. The outbreak was like a flash of lightning, illuminating the distant horizon that was originally blocked from people's sight.

In his speech, Allison talked about the possibility of disorder in the international order. He emphasized that the epidemic means that no country can be alone, and all countries are witnessing the threat of survival. Facing anti-epidemic actions including vaccine development, he called on countries to "achieve common interests in complex cooperation and competition."

Allison affirmed China's anti-epidemic performance and believed that "(China) has set an example." He recalled that he was very excited when he saw a plane loaded with Chinese masks arrive in Boston, USA. He also said that Chinese leaders recognize the extent of the threat of the epidemic and take decisive measures. The effect is obvious, and the Chinese economy will also return to the growth track.

Yan Xuetong, dean of the Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University, also believes that there may be a risk of disorder in the future international order, but he is optimistic about the future of the world, saying that by cooperating with the world, the "new cold war" can be avoided.

Volker Perth, CEO and director of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, said that Germany and Europe hope that the future international order will be based on multilateral cooperation and the international rule of law, and hope to establish and promote a multilateral alliance for cooperation. Despite seeing the risk factors in the international order, looking ahead, Perth remains optimistic about the prospects for international cooperation.

Alexander Dengkin, director of the Primakov Institute for World Economics and International Relations in Russia, believes that the international community needs to strengthen global governance to manage risks. In the long run, multilateral and responsible leadership programs are needed. First, when choosing foreign policy priorities, the principles of international law should be universally applied and double standards should be rejected. Second, we must abandon the strategy of exporting our own development model to other countries.

The 2020 World Peace Forum special video conference schedule shows that on June 17, former politicians and scholars from many countries will discuss issues such as Asia-Pacific security after the epidemic crisis. (Finish)
