Smuggler arrested
The Tunisian authorities have arrested an alleged smuggler, one of the most dangerous for crossing the Italian coast. The 56-year-old man allegedly organized the tragic shipwreck on 9 June. The sunken boat, in front of the coast of Kerkennah, claimed the lives of 60 sub-Saharan migrants, 28 women, 3 children and a Tunisian who was at the helm. The spokesman for the Central Coast Guard District, Ali Ayari, told the Tap agency. For the man, the prosecutor has ordered pre-trial detention in prison, while searches continue to capture two of his accomplices involved in the operation. The boat, according to the first elements of the investigation opened by the judiciary, had left Sfax on the night between 4 and 5 June, directed towards the Italian coasts.
