A 42-year-old man was sentenced to twelve months in prison by the Argentan (Orne) criminal court on Monday for acts of violence, contempt, public insults and malicious calls on his ex-girlfriend, but also on the mayor and members of the municipal council of Athis-Val-de-Rouvre, reports L'Orne Combattante .

City councilors intervened

The facts occurred on June 9, during a meeting of the municipal council. At around 10 p.m., the man burst into the meeting to settle his accounts with his ex-partner, after their separation. The woman, who is also a councilor at the town hall, then left the room and the tone quickly rose. After being slapped, he grabbed her by the arm and then dragged her out of the building. City councilors had to intervene to subdue the individual and one of them was punched. The mayor and elected officials were also subjected to insults.

"I hadn't come to fight, [...] she must have been upset and slapped me. It is true that I grabbed her by the hands to calm her down. The advisers came, my ex-partner left and I came back on my side, "he said before the magistrates. He could not bear that his ex-girlfriend was present at the municipal council when she told him to spend the evening with her parents and children.

"I just want him to leave me alone"

“He told me he was going to spoil my life, I couldn't take it anymore, his messages, his insults, so I slapped him […] As soon as I go somewhere or do something he intervenes [and] does not want to, ”explained the victim, before clarifying that she did not want to be a civil party and not ask for damages. "I just want him to leave me alone," she concluded.

The president of the court also recalled that the man had contacted his ex-girlfriend 17,000 times by message or phone call since their separation in July 2019. He was finally sentenced to 12 months in prison with a probationary suspension for two years with the ban on contacting the victims and with the obligations of care, work and paying the sums due to the public treasury. Finally, he will have to pay 750 euros to the civil parties.
