According to several sources close to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron is considering setting up a climate referendum, after the Citizen's Climate Convention.

This is a strong first act that Emmanuel Macron could take before the Citizens Climate Convention. According to several sources close to the President of the Republic to Europe 1, the latter is considering a climate referendum. These same sources describe this referendum as "likely".

Still according to these sources, Emmanuel Macron will go before the citizens' convention "at the beginning of July", and will tell the 150 citizens drawn by lot how he will take into account his proposals. The Convention is due to deliver its conclusions to the government on Sunday in order to fight global warming.

As early as January, during a meeting with the 150 citizens, the president was open to "a referendum on a few measures, because this is what will allow everyone to share the concern on the subject".

Objective: open a new page of the quinquennium

For the Head of State, it is about inaugurating a new page in his way of governing, and embarking on the French in a collective project after the coronavirus crisis, as he had announced during his speech from last Sunday.

A referendum on the climate subject, a prelude to other changes such as a government reshuffle, would have the advantage of being consensual, while economic and social tensions worry the executive.
