The Algerian Minister of Religious Affairs, Youssef Belmahdi, called on the complainants of the continued closure of mosques, despite the opening of most commercial activities and markets and the restoration of transport traffic, to resort to reason, and described those who do so as "disrupted the performance of experts and doctors."

He said, in a press conference yesterday: "We are looking for a near horizon, in which conditions will be created to reopen mosques." He added: "I salute this yearning for the opening of mosques, but the most beautiful is the application of reason and logic, and health experts are the ones who know the reality of the situation in Algeria, and confirm that conditions do not allow the opening of mosques in the current period."

He continued, “The members of the Fatwa Ministerial Committee are looking forward, as are all Algerians, to the day when God raises the scourge.

The Algerian street is seeing controversy because the mosques have not been reopened, although economic life has largely returned. Some considered that the continued closure of mosques is a political decision, aimed at "discouraging the popular movement".
