Former security adviser John Bolton was national security adviser in the United States between April 2018 and September 2019. In his new book, he highlights several startling examples of US President Donald Trump's administration.

Among other things, the president must have used the negotiations on the China-US trade agreement to be re-elected in the presidential election this fall. If China bought more agricultural products from the US, Trump would lower US tariffs on Chinese goods, according to Bolton. The reason was that Trump wanted to secure the votes in the US countryside in this year's presidential election, writes The New York Times.

Thought Finland belonged to Russia

The meeting between Trump and Xi took place in Japan last June.

In the book, Bolton also describes Trump's various conversations that he had with leaders, which reveal the president's lack of knowledge. For example, Trump should have asked whether Finland belongs to Russia and described Britain as a leading nuclear weapons nation.

The White House tried to stop the publication of John Bolton's book.
