The International Basketball Federation (FIBA), organizer of the Women's Euroleague, announced Tuesday that it has abandoned its plan to end the competition with a Final 8 in the fall and has declared the end of the current edition without awarding any title.

The Ladies' Euroleague was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic when, for the first time in the history of French basketball, three clubs from France, Bourges, Asvel and Montpellier, were getting ready to play in the quarter-finals, respectively against Fenerbahçe (Turkey), Orenburg and Ekaterinburg (Russia).

FIBA hopes that the next edition can start in September or October, with or without spectators, depending on health conditions and government decisions.

If it could not start in the fall, the Ladies' Euroleague would be postponed to early 2021 with the introduction of a reduced format, added the governing body of world basketball.
