Replacing the old refrigeration plant containing dangerous ammonia would be too costly and was not justifiable for several reasons, according to Köping's ruling politicians already in 2015. However, in the past year, the decision not to invest more in the ice rink on "Krillan" has generated strong reactions. .

Among other things, a manifestation was held in February, something for example P4 Västmanland reported on. Without ice, the question was also what would happen to the local bandy association.

Many have quit

The bandy association has also been a major force in pushing the issue of the ice rink and the need for a new cooling plant further. For their help, they have had the bandy union, the local business community, entrepreneurs and a close dialogue with responsive governing politicians, says Olof Widaeus.

 - It is clear that there was a very important heart in the foundation, but the issue is bigger than the bandy. We want there to be art for children and young people, for the public and to develop activities around.

Will be a middle year without home corn

And after the association was able to present cheaper solutions than previously anticipated, the political majority presented the proposal to reconsider the decision not to invest in the ice rink. One that the municipal council's working committee has now supported and which is passed on to the municipal board and finally the municipal council.

This is stated in a press release from the municipality of Köping.

The intention now is for the municipality to invest in the machinery itself and that the association gathers non-profit forces inside and outside the association that stand for time and work. But it takes several official decisions in politics before it can become a reality - so it will be at least an intermediate year without an artifice.

- We expect to have new ice in place for the next season. We are still working on the coming one as usual in the ice hall and on away ice. Our children and young people are allowed to ride a little more bus than usual but one year it is possible to maintain the business, says Olof Widaeus, KIS bandy.
