China has put in place harsh methods to curb a new outbreak of the corona virus in Beijing. They do that right in Sällberg's opinion, as the country has a very low immunity when they took tough measures early in Wuhan in February.

- That means if they get an outbreak, it will spread. They have managed to deal with it before. But if it spreads sufficiently in the population so that the infection tracking is not able to catch all cases, then it can be a real outbreak.

An outbreak that will then spread to the rest of Asia.

- South Korea should be well prepared but in the rest of Asia it may get some spread. But we will see how China handles this.

- They managed to try 10 million in Wuhan, which is very impressive. But all sorts of forms of state can not handle it in the same way, says Matti Sällberg.

Don't think the virus was in salmon

It is unlikely that the new outbreak in Beijing will affect Sweden's corona situation, according to Sällberg.

- I wouldn't be so worried about this virus being spread all over the globe already. For Sweden, we already have the virus here, says the professor.

Reports that the virus was found on a cutting board in Beijing where salmon were handled have basically stopped salmon from being imported into China and restaurants and shops have stopped selling salmon. But according to Sällberg, the unrest is unjustified.

- Probably someone working on handling the fish has had the infection.

Not that the virus is suddenly found in fish?

- No, I don't think so.

Possibly it has European origin

However, Sällberg believes that the Chinese data that the new outbreak in Beijing may originate in a European virus strain may be correct.

- Yeah why not, it jumps back and forth across the globe this virus, it's not a bad idea. It is in the nature of the virus to get some mutations every now and then.
