In January, Region Skåne immediately stopped the Care Express after SVT's revelations. At the same time, regional director Alf Jönsson decided that an external review should be conducted.

Now the investigation has been completed by the audit firm PWC and it confirms that there may have been irregularities by the fact that a few people acted inappropriately during the procurement process and in violation of the LOU (Public Procurement Act).

Left over the investigation material

PWC makes the assessment that there are suspicions of crime. Region Skåne complies with the recommendations in the external review and has made a police report and handed over the investigation material to the police's national anti-corruption group within NOA (National Operations Department).

Relevant labor law measures will also be taken against employees in Region Skåne.

- We are extremely serious about the fact that the information on irregularities is now confirmed by the external review and that a few individuals have acted inappropriately. It is very uncommon to be forced to report the police, which requires that we have grounds for suspicion. All the more important that we chose to act directly. The investigation shows that the decision was correct, to interrupt the collaboration and to set up an investigation to present facts on the table. With this as a basis, we can now take the necessary measures and hand over the investigation to legal bodies, ”says Alf Jönsson, regional director at Region Skåne, in a press release on Tuesday.

May have had access to info

The investigation has identified that an employee in Region Skåne who participated in the procurement may have had an incentive to influence the procurement for their own gain.

There is also information that additional employees in Region Skåne have acted inappropriately. According to the investigation, the company that won the procurement has been given access to information and thus may have been unduly favored.

As the Region Skåne police report the incident takes legal examination. This means that Region Skåne will not provide any further comments on the contents of the investigation.
