After several weeks of tension following the death of George Floyd, an African-American asphyxiated by a white police officer during his arrest, American President Donald Trump signed, on Tuesday, June 16, a decree ordering a limited reform of the forces of order.

The decree includes a ban on controversial strangulation attempts, except "if the life of a police officer is in danger," the head of state said after meeting the families of victims of police or racist violence. It "encourages" the thousands of American police units to adopt the "highest professional standards", he added from the White House gardens.

These measures, however, fall short of what the demonstrators claim, who have mobilized since the death of George Floyd on May 25 in Minneapolis.
