New assessments, new measures, highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic.

- Extremely serious situation in Beijing -

The epidemic situation in Beijing is "extremely serious", warned the mayor on Tuesday, with 106 cases of Covid-19 identified since last week in the Chinese capital after the emergence of a new outbreak.

The city has begun screening tens of thousands of residents. This revival comes when the country, where the new coronavirus was spotted at the end of 2019, had practically eradicated the epidemic.

- More than 436,000 dead -

The new coronavirus pandemic has killed at least 436,813 people worldwide since China officially reported the disease in December, AFP reported from official sources at 11:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The United States, which recorded its first death linked to the coronavirus in early February, is the country most affected with 116,127 deaths.

After the United States, the most affected countries are Brazil with 43,959 deaths, the United Kingdom with 41,736 deaths, Italy with 34,371 deaths, and France with 29,436 deaths.

- Fear of monsoon diseases in India -

Already short of hospital beds and nursing staff due to the virulence of the coronavirus epidemic, India fears a worsening of the health crisis with the annual monsoon and its procession of diseases.

More than half a million people are infected each year in India by diseases favored by the rains, such as dengue and malaria, during the great monsoon which strikes the country of South Asia from June to September. - Sewers, indicators of the epidemic in Israel -

To fight the epidemic, the Israeli city of Ashkelon tested a technology to analyze wastewater, using a network of sensors and regulators in the aqueducts of this city of 130,000 inhabitants planted between the metropolis Tel Aviv and the Gaza Strip.
