The expansion of Lysekil's oil refinery is estimated to result in an emission increase of one million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Johan G Andersson President of the fuel companies industry organization SPBI, to which Preem belongs, believes that it will not mean a global increase in emissions.

- It should be borne in mind that refineries are an industry that is part of the EU's emission allowance trade, and where emissions must be considered where emissions occur throughout the EU. A million tonnes in Sweden means a million tonnes of reduced emissions elsewhere when reducing the number of emission allowances, he says in SVT's Aktuellt.
