Spanish police announced on Monday the arrest of five drug traffickers and the seizure of 100,000 ecstasy tablets intended for the island of Ibiza which is preparing for the return of tourists after months of confinement. "Investigators have been able to establish that the 100,000 ecstasy tablets were destined for Ibiza to coincide with the start of the summer season," said a police statement.

In addition to ecstasy, the police seized 160 kilograms of marihuana, 71 kilograms of hashish and one kilogram of ketamine.

German tourists have already landed

The gang of five traffickers was dismantled near Barcelona on June 5, as Spain prepares to break out of a confinement of more than three months and reopen its borders to tourists next Sunday, June 21.

A vanguard of German tourists has already started to land on Monday in the Balearic Islands as part of a pilot project to revive tourism. This island in the Balearic archipelago in the Mediterranean is one of the hotspots for party tourism and discos for thousands of young Europeans.
