June 15, 2020 For the fourth time in its history, the Oscar ceremony slips. Due to the coronavirus emergency, the 93rd edition, scheduled for February 28, 2021, has been postponed to April 25.

This was announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the ABC network, after a meeting via zoom of the members of the Board of Governors of the Academy. The eligibility window has also been extended from 31 December 2020 to 28 February 2021.

The opening of the Cinema Museum has also been postponed, from 14 December to 30 April 2021.

The first one-week delay was in 1938 due to the floods that hit Los Angeles; the second, two-day delay occurred in 1968, after the assassination of Martin Luther King, while the last chance, for just 24 hours, was in 1981, after the attack on President Ronald Reagan.
