It was around 22.30 on Friday evening that police were alerted to the Atlanta restaurant in the state of Georgia. The reason was that a man fell asleep in a car that stood in the way of customers who wanted to buy food from the restaurant's drive through.

After a positive alcohol test, police would arrest the man. He should then have resisted and tried to get hold of one of the police electric gun. According to testimony, the man must have been shot in connection with the fight for the electric gun, states the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the police involved, in a statement.

After the shooting, the man was taken to a hospital where he later died. GBI has identified the victim as a 27-year-old African American man, CNN writes.

Film allegedly showing the event

On social media, a film is said to be from the incident where a man is seen tearing himself away from two police officers and flee on foot, whereupon it looks like he is shot from behind.

GBI writes on Twitter that they are "aware that there is a video on social media filmed by witnesses to the incident" being reviewed by the agency. Friday's shootout is the 48th to be investigated by GBI this year, writes WSB.

The shooting occurred in the midst of some of the biggest protests against police brutality that have taken place in the United States, and demonstrations of Black rights have spread globally. The film allegedly depicting the course of events of Friday's shooting has sparked strong reactions in social media and several users are accusing police of being assaulted.
