Relief workers and local residents say that at least 20 soldiers were killed at 11am on Saturday, local time, in the city of Monguno. About the same time, the population of nearby Nganzai was attacked and about 40 people were killed.
The terrorist movement Islamic State's West African branch of Iswap claims to be behind the attacks.
