12 June 2020 No alternative solutions to prison are foreseen for Harald Espenhahn and Gerald Priegnitz, the two German managers of Thyssen definitively sentenced in Italy for the stake which in 2007 cost the lives of seven workers employed in the Turin factory of the group. This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Turin who in recent days has asked the EuroJust affair, the European Union's judicial cooperation unit, specifying that the execution of the sentence is imminent.

The court of Essen had charged the two managers against the two managers but had adapted them to German law which in these cases provides for a maximum detention of 5 years. The two managers had filed an appeal which, however, was rejected by the upper regional court of Hamm in Germany on 23 January. However, the execution of the sentence which should have already been started and issued last March has not yet been carried out due to the slowdowns due to the Covid emergency.

"The Essen court has recognized the effectiveness of the Turin sentence - explained Saluzzo - and therefore the German leaders will certainly go to jail. They will serve a five-year sentence, the maximum foreseen by the German justice system for manslaughter. it is foreseen only after having served half of the sentence in prison, while after two thirds there are alternative measures to detention ".
