The reactions did not wait until last week it became clear that domestic travel will be allowed again from Saturday.

Destination Gotland received thousands of bookings in less than a day. And the Swedish Tourist Association set a record.

- We had an increase of 133 percent compared to the same period last year. About 1,600 new bookings came in, which is about 3,000 new guest places, says Jenny Engström. press and communications manager at STF.

Half of the seats

The pressure on train tickets also increased sharply, but on the other hand it still corresponds to only half the sales SJ had the same period a year ago. Because, despite the fact that symptom-free people can now travel, the recommendations of the Public Health Authority still apply.

- Where we have a seat reservation, we have only sold half of the seats in order to provide a safe journey. There have been a few more places on the fast trains, says Simon Hermansson.

Extra long trains

After the midsummer weekend, SJ will deploy more trains and train traffic will then correspond to 70 percent of regular summer traffic. On some lines extra long trains will also be deployed.

- We believe in domestic travel this summer and we feel that the pressure on bookings is high so it is good that you plan your trip in the best possible time, says Simon Hermansson.

Prior to the weekend SJ, SAS and Flixbus have not sold out all tickets, however, the companies have seen an additional demand. They have already taken measures to prevent the spread of infection on board.
