The three lists of the second round of municipal elections in Lambersart. - AB

  • Of the 95 municipalities in the Lille metropolitan area, 17 did not elect their municipal council in the first round.
  • In Lambersart, near Lille, in the North, the election almost gave birth to a second round with five candidates, an extremely rare phenomenon.
  • It will ultimately be a triangular with, in the background, rivalries between former deputies.

Scattered like a puzzle. The municipal election in Lambersart, near Lille, in the North, almost gave birth to a second round with five candidates - an extremely rare phenomenon. Finally, the confinement stifled certain ambitions and only three lists, among those which could be maintained, decided to set out again to attack the town hall.

Of the 95 municipalities in the Lille metropolitan area, 17 did not elect their municipal council in the first round. 20 Minutes therefore looks at the case of Lambersart, a city renowned for being the chic suburb of Lille and held, for almost thirty years, by the former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy and senator (LR) Marc-Philippe Daubresse.

A rather hectic end of mandate

Because whatever the result, it's a page that could turn. At Lambersart, tradition dictates that the assistant will try, one day or another, to seek first place. Since 1988, Marc-Philippe Daubresse has always stood firm.

In 2017, the date of his election to the Senate, he entrusted the reins to Christiane Krieger who experienced a rather agitated end of mandate around the Daubresse heritage. To the point that three former assistants had decided to embark on the municipal campaign.

In the second round, only one remains: Christophe Caudron (17% in the first round), supported by the presidential party LREM. Claudie Jilcot (14%), loyal to Marc-Philippe Daubresse, threw in the towel, without voting instructions. The third remained below the fateful 10% mark.

Nicolas Bouche, favorite

In this maquis of diverse right-wing candidates were added those of opponents to Marc-Philippe Daubresse: Nicolas Bouche (36%) and Olivier Fauchille (10%). The latter also decided not to file a list for the second round so that "the mayor and the new municipal team are elected with a significant number of votes", preferring "to weigh on the town by creating an association with his running mate".

Large winner of the first round, Nicolas Bouche therefore finds himself with the label of favorite. “We have always refused alliances and mergers. In 2014, I retired after doing 20% so that there was a real change of mindset and to end feudalism. I hope this change will take place this time, ”he explains.

Results in your city

“The finances are in a dramatic state, the debt explodes. I do not know in what state the next mayor will find the city, "says this doctor, whose main outsider is Christophe Caudron *.

The role of abstention

To win, the latter can only count on the hypothetical transfer of votes from the candidates who withdrew or on the abstainers from the first round. Because, as in most cities, the abstention rate broke a record, reaching 62%.

Finally, there remains a list, bottom left, for this triangular. Pierre-Yves Pira (13%) is unlikely to be elected, but he has the merit of having brought together several parties, from environmentalists to communists, including socialists.

He nevertheless seems capable of finding the seat of the left opponent that he occupied between 2008 and 2014. "We have a front door with the lack of social housing," says Pierre-Yves Pira. And some Lambersartois are tired of the cost of living very expensive in their town. "

* Contacted, Christophe Caudron's team did not respond to our request for an interview.
