The French have until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday to declare their income online for 2019. Until Friday, for followers of the paper declaration. This year, the automatic declaration of income facilitated the procedure, but it did not convince all taxpayers.

Last straight line to finalize the 2019 income statement. The deadline expires this Thursday at 11.59pm, but it is already too late for the departments numbered from 1 to 54. In case of delay, the taxpayer is exposed to an increase of 10%. For paper enthusiasts, the deadline is a little later: Friday June 12. Of the 38 million tax households, just over 20 million chose to report online this year rather than on paper. A figure down compared to last year.

A small drop which does not mean that the French have shunned the internet, but which can be explained by the arrival of the automatic tax return. The declaration is pre-filled, and if the taxpayer has nothing to modify, it is no longer even useful to return the declaration, neither by internet nor by mail.

Automatic tax return has yet to convince

The procedure is thus simplified, but the users are not always seduced. Between those who do not know what automatic declaration is and those who could not get out without modifications. "I still had to fill in a few fields that were not filled in," says a mother. "It was necessary to fill the alimony".

"You have to go get noon to two o'clock to complete, if I have made donations or if there are aids to the person, we have to go and get documents, it is not obvious", continues a man.

According to the tax administration, nearly 12 million tax households would have nothing to change this year. The figure can only be verified in July when all the declarations have been counted.
