The Elysee denied on Thursday information from Figaro that Emmanuel Macron had recently raised the possibility of a resignation followed by a new candidacy for the presidency of the Republic. Government spokesman Sibeth Ndiaye denounced a "wacky idea".

This is information from Le Figaro which raised a lot of questions this Thursday. Emmanuel Macron would have, according to the newspaper, raised the possibility of a resignation preceding a new candidacy for the presidency of the Republic. A resignation followed by a re-election mentioned during a videoconference meeting with a circle of donors. Information denied by the Élysée, according to AFP.

"I'm sure to win because there is no one in front"

In the article published Thursday, Le Figaro writes that Emmanuel Macron, "at a meeting of the first circle of donors in 2017 in London", "clearly showed that he was ready, according to his favorite expression, to 'take his risk '". According to one of the famous donors present at the meeting, the president did not doubt his re-election, he even said "be sure to win because there is no one opposite".

"It's pretty crazy"

"We deny this information. The President of the Republic has never mentioned his resignation," the presidency told AFP. He "never participated in a videoconference with donors". At the microphone of France Info, Sibeth Ndiaye judged the information "wacky": it "would be both completely contrary to the spirit of our institutions, and even quite distant from the character of Emmanuel Macron, who is rather somewhat 'one who faces crises and difficult times,' said the government spokeswoman.
