This is stated in a widespread statement by the head of the State Department’s press service, Morgan Ortegus.

"Secretary of State Pompeo and Secretary General Guterres discussed steps aimed at ending the conflict and resolving the situation in Libya through negotiations," the statement said.

It is clarified that Pompeo and Guterres also talked about the need to resume the cross-border humanitarian mechanism in Syria and the importance of extending the UN arms embargo on Iran.

Pompeo said earlier that the United States is imposing sanctions on two leaders of the Iranian nuclear program.
