Four families from Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne) have filed complaints for "arbitrary detention" and "insults of a racist and homophobic nature" after the arrest on May 26 of their children aged 14 and 15, a- we learned on Wednesday from their lawyer. The facts took place Tuesday, May 26 at the start of the afternoon in this city in the Parisian suburbs, according to Me Jérôme Karsenti, confirming information from Mediapart and France Inter.

That day, four college students, including two of North African origin and a young black man, were the subject of a police check while they were in a park. "They are handcuffed in the street for two hours before a municipal police car comes to take them to the Kremlin-Bicêtre police station," says Karsenti. "We vaguely tell them about a theft that allegedly took place the day before, but there is no reason for the arrest," said the lawyer.

Parents not warned

Three young people are then transported to the police station in the municipal police car. This is where they claim to have received homophobic and racist insults. One of them also claims to have been slapped by one of the police. The fourth youngster is transported in another car. Asked, the Val-de-Marne police declined to comment. The parents say they have not been told that their children are in police custody: "We were worried, we had no information, absolutely nothing. The whole procedure was done without us being in the loop, ”explains Mohand Bakir, father of one of the young people.

“My son is 14 years old. How is it possible that we are not warned? Even today we do not know why our children were arrested, ”he continues. The four young people will be released the next evening without any charges being brought against them, according to their lawyer. Solicited, the Créteil prosecution has so far not received complaints from families.

Three days later, one of the young people said that he had been threatened on the street by one of the police officers against whom he had complained. A press conference with the families of young people is scheduled for Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in Ivry-sur-Seine at the permanence of the rebellious deputy Mathilde Panot who accompanied parents and young people in their judicial journey.
