09 June 2020Huawei has released the programming interfaces (APIs) to developers that are used to create applications for tracking contacts on their smartphones, similar to that made available by Apple and Google to develop tracking apps, and on which It also 'supports' Immuni, the official Italian app that has been experimenting since June 8 in four regions.

The "contact shield api", this is the name of the software developed by Huawei, was not formally announced by Shenzhen, but the availability to the developers has already been detected by the specialized site xda-developers.

Bees could allow Bending Spoons to make Immuni compatible with these smartphones. The app is already available on Google and Apple stores from June 2nd. "Immuni is a very useful component. Tracking is essential, 2 million Italians have already downloaded it," said Coronavirus emergency commissioner Domenico Arcuri. "We have not yet started massive communication to promote it, but in these three months I have understood that Italians know what they have to do."

The Italian market
In Italy Huawei maintains the second position in the market with a volume market share of 29% and value 23.6% (Huawei + Honor) and 32.9% of the Android smartphone market. "Europe remains a very important market for us and we remain committed to it in the long term", according to data released by the company during the presentation of the Mate 30 in Munich last September. This device is based, like the others, on the Android operating system, but in its open source, basic and free version that Huawei and the other manufacturers are free to use.

The most recent smartphone models of the Chinese giant are in fact devoid of Google updates, applications and services, which suspended them due to the ban imposed by the Trump administration. And for this reason, without the dedicated bee kit, it would not be possible to download the Immuni app on some Huawei and Honor models (Huawei Mate 30, P40, Y series, the folding mate Xs and Honor 9x Pro).

In 2018, according to Statista, the leading smartphone brand in Italy was Samsung. According to a survey conducted among smartphone owners, 30% of respondents had a Samsung phone, while 24% owned a Huawei smartphone. Apple's iPhone was the third most popular smartphone model in Italy: 17% of respondents owned one.
