A recent study expressed the formation of the causes of real anger among the American black community, prior to the accident of the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis, Minnesota city police.

She points to additional causes other than Floyd's killing that have led to widespread protest demonstrations in the United States, including those linked to poverty rates, unemployment and income rates.

Unemployment rates among blacks did not diminish as they remained less fortunate in re-employment during last May, and the latest government reports issued by the Ministry of Labor indicated that 2.5 million Americans were reinstated.

According to the study of the Economic Policy Institute, blacks felt injustice and persecution in light of the Corona pandemic and its aftermath, as they were the most jobless, the most recorded deaths, and the most economically insecure.

Greater health suffering

Although the emerging coronavirus does not distinguish between humans based on race or color, African Americans have a greater percentage of HIV infections and deaths than other citizens.

A study revealed that the predominantly black provinces have nearly half of the cases of the virus, and more than 60% of deaths from the emerging corona.

At a time when the number of blacks is 13% of the total population of the United States, the proportion of those who died from the virus reached 22.4% of the total citizen deaths that exceeded the barrier of 110 thousand people by the end of Monday, June 8, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Health conditions are not limited to the consequences of corona infection. Blacks have known chronic diseases with higher proportions than their white counterparts, especially with regard to diseases of respiratory crises, high blood sugar, nervous tension and obesity diseases.

The rates of lack of health insurance for blacks rise to 12%, while the percentage falls below 7% among whites.

Unemployment is constantly rising

The report indicated that the unemployment rate among black citizens rose to 16.7%, while it did not exceed 14.2% among whites.

The study of the Institute of Economic Policy - supervised by Alice Gold and Flary Wilson - showed that the consequences of closing various business sectors resulted in three categories:

  • A class that has lost its jobs and suffers from bad financial and economic conditions.
  • A class of essential business owners who risk their health security.
  • A class that continues to function without influence by working remotely from homes.

According to the report, most blacks fell between the first and second categories, and only a limited percentage of them fell into the third category.

A report issued by the Pew Research Center indicated that 73% of Americans with African roots expressed that they had no savings to cover the needs of emergencies.

The economic hardship of blacks was not limited to job losses, but to those who did not lose their jobs but worked in unsafe conditions.

The report categorized several vital areas that continued to operate during shutdowns and increase the risk of transmission to the worker and his family.

And the proportion of blacks among workers in these areas is higher than their 11% in the American labor market in general. The proportion of blacks with vital jobs reached 17%.

In the field of groceries and pharmacies, blacks represent 14.2% of the workforce, 26% in public transportation and distribution, 18.2% in postal services, 17.5% in the health field, and 19.3% in childcare.

Low incomes and widespread poverty

Despite the improvement of the economic conditions of blacks in recent decades, as their incomes have increased in general, the average per capita income of them is less than his white counterpart by two hundred dollars per week if educational levels and practical experience equal.

The disparity is great when looking at the income rates of black families and comparing them with the income of white families.

The average income of the black family was 41.7 thousand dollars in 2019, while the income of the white family was 70.7 thousand, according to the data of the Ministry of Labor and the Federal Statistical Office.

The percentage of blacks living below the poverty line reached 21% among black families, while it did not exceed 8.1% among white families. The poverty line means the income of a family of four people less than 25.7 thousand dollars annually.

The Federal Statistics Office data indicate that 25% of black families belong to the poor working class, whose annual income ranges between 15 thousand and 35 thousand dollars. The percentage of black families from the working middle class is 40%, and their annual income is between 35 thousand and 100 thousand dollars.

12% of black families belong to the upper middle class and their income ranges between 100,000 and 200,000 annually, while only 2% of black families belong to wealthy families with an annual income of more than 200,000 dollars.

All of the above and other criteria confirm that the wrath of blacks is old, deep and continuing. The murder of Floyd came in this hideous manner to increase this anger and convey the protest to more than seven hundred American cities.
