Tropical storm Cristobal hit the coast of Louisiana in the southeastern United States on Sunday, June 7.

At 10 p.m. GMT, the storm hit the southeast coast of that state, with winds of up to 80 km / h, according to the United States Hurricane Center (NHC). Gusts reached 102 km / h on an island off the coast of the Mississippi.

The NHC has issued a "life-threatening flood risk" warning for the area from the mouth of the Mississippi to Ocean Springs, just over 140 km away, as well as a risk tropical storm for an area extending to Florida, which means strong winds and heavy rain are expected. The storm is expected to ease as we approach Arkansas and Missouri on Monday and Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump has indicated that he will sign an emergency declaration to release federal funds.

According to the American Oceanic and Atmospheric Observing Agency (NOAA), the 2020 hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30, is likely to be above normal in the Atlantic, with a forecast of three to six or more Category 3 hurricanes.
