Niort's coach Franck Passi, in office since January 2020, has not renewed his contract with the Chamois to support Laurent Blanc in his future project, said the Niort club on Monday.

In a press release, the Chamois indicate that "in accordance with what was planned on his arrival in January 2020, (Franck Passi) gave his word to Laurent Blanc to accompany him on a very ambitious sports project this summer. We tried to to make him reconsider this commitment but he did not wish to renounce his promise and it is all to his honor. "

Blanc and Passi have known each other since their joint training in Montpellier.

Passi, 54, a former interim coach from Marseille, Lille and Monaco, has led eight Niort games this season for a record of 2 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. The Chamois finished 18th in an L2 season stopped in mid-March by the pandemic.

Laurent Blanc, who started his coaching career in Bordeaux from 2007 to 2010 (1 champion title, 1 League Cup), then took charge of the French team from 2010 to 2012, before joining Paris SG in 2013 where he reigned on the L1 for three seasons. He has not coached since 2016.
