He fell while trying to escape a dog. A Briton was rescued in Pecatu, Bali, after spending six days trapped in the bottom of a four-meter deep reservoir, we learned this Sunday from the authorities of the Indonesian tourist island.

Jacob Roberts, aged 29, was brought back to the open air the previous day by a team of rescuers who extracted him from the cement tank.

A broken leg

The alert had been given by a peasant from the village "who was going to feed his cows" and who had heard the calls for help from the victim, explained the local aid official, Gede Darmada.

Jacob Roberts broke his leg while tripping and falling into the half-empty tank. He told authorities that he was trying to run away from a dog chasing him and forced him out of the village. "He looked emaciated and injured," said police official Yusak Agustinus Sooai. The young man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
