Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi announced an agreement with the Speaker of the Parliament in Tobruk Aqila Saleh and retired Major General Khalifa Haftar on a political initiative to end the conflict in Libya, after a series of defeats that Haftar suffered and the restoration of the government of the entire Western Accord from his forces.

Sisi said - at a press conference he met with Saleh and Haftar at the Federal Palace in Cairo - that the seriousness of the current situation will extend its repercussions on the regional and international contexts.

He pointed out that the Cairo agreement aims to ensure a fair representation of all three regions of Libya in a presidential council elected by the people under the supervision of the United Nations, and obligate all foreign parties to remove foreign mercenaries from all Libyan lands, dismantle militias and surrender their weapons.

Al-Sisi confirmed that the agreement also includes renewing the call to resume negotiations in Geneva, and a ceasefire as of June 8.

In turn, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, held in Tobruk, said that the agreement with the Egyptian President stipulates the appointment of a president, two deputies, and a transitional period in Libya that extends for a year and a half.

He added that this initiative came in accordance with the recommendations of the UN Security Council and the outputs of the Berlin Conference.

As for the head of the Supreme Council of the Libyan State, Khaled al-Mashri, he confirmed - in connection with the island - his rejection of any initiative that is not based on the Libyan political agreement, stressing that Haftar has no place in any upcoming negotiations.

In this context, Jumah Al-Kumati - Special Personal Envoy of the President of the Presidential Council of the Government of Concord to the Arab Maghreb countries - said that this initiative comes from one side, and goes beyond the active forces on the ground, which is the government of national reconciliation.

He added - in connection with the island - that Libya is not unable to speak for itself, noting that what has been described as a political initiative includes the declaration of a new constitution, although there is an existing constitutional declaration.

In the Libyan context, Turkey announced its rejection of the Egyptian accusations that it obstructed peace in Libya, and held the countries supporting the retired Libyan Major General Khalifa Hifter "fully responsible for the chaos in Libya."

In a statement today, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Aqsa said that his country "completely rejects the accusations made by Egypt on the tongue of its foreign minister, Sameh Shukri, to Turkey that it obstructs the peace process in Libya during his participation on June 4, at the foreign ministers meeting of the mini-group countries." Aqsoua said that the Turkish representative in that meeting, Sadat Onal, Deputy Foreign Minister, responded to Egypt's accusations, saying that "it is the one who actually obstructs the march of stability in Libya who is obstructing the work of the recognized legitimate government and supports the pirate and revolutionary Haftar, and seeks to form a revolutionary authority that opposes the legitimate authority of Libya."

"We stressed in the meeting that the biggest obstacle to establishing peace and stability in Libya is the putschist pirate Khalifa Hifter, by seeking to topple the legitimate government and establish a new ruling authority in the country, alongside the Egyptian administration that provides him with all kinds of support, and the rest of the countries that support him," he said. .

He added, "The standing of a ruler who came to power through a coup, along with another coup, is not surprising, and that Egypt's military support for the coup Haftar several years ago is a flagrant violation of the relevant United Nations resolutions." He stressed that the parties supporting Haftar "will always be responsible for the chaos and instability in Libya." Stressing that Turkey "will continue to support the legitimate Libyan government at its request, and within the framework of United Nations resolutions, in order to seek to establish security and stability in Libya."

The Egyptian presidential spokesman, Bassam Radi, said that Sisi received Saleh and Haftar at the Federal Palace in Cairo, in the presence of the defense and foreign ministers, in addition to the head of the General Intelligence.

He added that the meeting comes as the Libyan security is an extension of the Egyptian national security, in addition to the impact of the repercussions of the current Libyan situation on the regional and international contexts, as he put it.
